ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

ORGANIZATION

The Catalog Department is responsible for cataloging and classifying monographs and serials in all formats for the Main Library, and the three branch libraries: Architecture, Curriculum Materials, and Veterinary Medicine. The cataloging standards are RDA as interpreted by the Library of Congress, the Dewey Decimal Classification system, and LC Subject Headings. The cataloging utility is OCLC, and the local online catalog is available through Endeavor's web-based Voyager system. The department is also responsible for authority control and database maintenance for the Main Library and its branches, as well as for the Government Documents Department and Patents & Trademarks. In addition, the department does end processing of the materials, including security stripping, labeling, and pamphlet binding as needed, and mending of circulating materials.

NATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The Catalog Department of the Oklahoma State University Library is a participant in the National Enhance program and the BIBCO/NACO cooperative cataloging program. As a National Enhance library, we are able to make corrections and changes to the master record for any monograph bibliographic record on OCLC. As a member of the NACO program, we create and contribute authority records to the Library of Congress authority file on OCLC. As a participant in the BIBCO program, we are authorized to contribute bibliographic records to OCLC.
