ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
ORGANIZATION
The Catalog Department is one of the two units in Technical Services. The department is
responsible for cataloging and classifying monographs and serials in all formats for the Main
Library, and the three branch libraries: Architecture, Curriculum Materials,
and Veterinary Medicine. The cataloging standards are AACR2R as interpreted by the Library of
Congress, the Dewey Decimal Classification system, and LC Subject Headings. The cataloging utility is
OCLC, and the local online catalog is available through Endeavor's web-based Voyager system. The department
is also responsible for authority
control and database maintenance for the Main Library and its branches, as well as for the
Government Documents Department and Patents & Trademarks.
In addition, the department does end processing of the materials, including security stripping,
labeling, and pamphlet binding as needed, and mending of circulating materials.
The department is organized in teams consisting of a librarian and an assistant. Each team has
specialty focus areas, such as non-book materials, serials, and juvenile materials. To access
