We have indexed these publications based on the actual physical pieces.

Errors in dates, numbering of volumes, or numbering of issues were not corrected or compensated for. What you see in the Table of Contents display, is, to the best of our ability, a reflection of each actual physical piece.
Errors in the spelling of authors' names were handled differently. There is an entry for the author's name spelled as it is in the piece (incorrectly) and one for the author's name spelled correctly.
Every effort has been made to standardize the authors' names. If articles were published by the same author under different forms of their name -- Ronald J. Tyrl, R. Tyrl, and R.J. Tyrl -- we have entered all of the articles under one standardized form -- R.J. Tyrl.
In Memoriam articles are sometimes listed as In Memoriam and sometimes as In Memorium in the publications. We have indexed all as In Memoriam because it is the predominant spelling throughout the journals.

Keyword Search

When in doubt, or when your results are not satisfactory, repeat your search using simpler criteria. Use one word instead of a phrase. Use a more basic form of a word (e.g. toxic instead of toxicology). Use less search criteria - use only one of the keyword fields instead of several at once (e.g. keyword instead of keyword and author).

You can not truncate a search term in this index. You can not use wildcards in a search term in this database. You can not use these techniques in the keyword or author search fields. Doing so will cause your search to fail.

Searching by word or partial word in title.

You may search for a word, partial word, or exact phrase from the article title.
When you enter a term, the index will search for the word, partial word, or exact phrase that you entered (e.g. if you search for toxic your results will include article titles in which the characters t-o-x-i-c appear in that order anywhere in any word in the article title. Results will include toxicology, intoxication, and toxicologist. Results will not include toxinology.

Searching by author's last name.

You may search for an author by last name.
Do not add any initials or first name - your search will fail - enter only the last name.
If an article has more than one author, you may search by any of the authors.If we are aware of an error in the authors last name (e.g. Tyrl incorrectly printed at Tyol) we have added an entry for the name spelled incorrectly (as in the printed piece) and an entry for the name spelled correctly. At the end of the entry we have added a note explaining the presumed error.
If you are searching for an article for which there was no author listed in the printed piece, we have entered "Anonymous" as the last name. This happens most often with announcements and news items.

Searching by volume or issue number within keyword search.

When you enter a number, the index will search for the number or partial number that you entered (e.g. if you search for volume 7 your results will include all volumes in which the number 7 appears anywhere in the volume number. Results will include 7, 17, 27, 37, etc. The same is true for issue numbers.

Displaying Tables of Contents

You can display the Table of Contents for any issue of Oklahoma Veterinarian, The Journal, or OVMA Communique.

Select the individual issue and publication from the drop down box in the Table of Contents Display and click the Search button directly below that box.
The list of issues is in chronologic order from oldest to newest regardless of the publication.

FIRST find the year you are looking for

THEN the publication/volume/issue. For example, 1987 has six separate entries:

Oklahoma Veterinarian, volume 39 issue 2
Oklahoma Veterinarian, volume 39 issue 3
OVMA Communique, volume 1 issue 1
OVMA Communique, volume 1 issue 2
OVMA Communique, volume 1 issue 3
OVMA Communique, volume 1 issue 4

Results

Your results are sorted for display using three criteria.

First they are grouped by publication:

All results from OVMA Communique then
All results from The Journal then
All results from Oklahoma Veterinarian

Second they are displayed within each publication chronologically oldest to newest.

Third they are displayed within each year by author's last name in reverse alphabetic order (z to a).

If your results include an article that is written by more than one author, your results will display an entry for each of the authors.
We have enhanced article titles to include the names of award winners and in memoriams so that these names are searchable (e.g. the obituary for Dr. McElroy can be found by searching for McElroy in the article title although the article title is simply In Memoriam).
We have noted the inclusion of photographs or graphics -- this is not a searchable field but displays at the end of the citation if appropriate.
If we have noted a difference between the way an article is listed in the table of contents and the actual article, we have added a explanatory note.
We have done our best to standardize the names across time and across the publications. Please feel free to contact us if you notice an inconsistent or incorrect instance.
