Mr. Frank A. McPherson
Chairman and CEO, Kerr-McGee Corporation
Frank A. McPherson, chairman and chief executive officer for Kerr-McGee Corporation, is a prominent Oklahoma business leader, humanitarian, and active OSU alumnus. A native of Stilwell, Oklahoma, he completed a B.S. degree in Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering at Oklahoma State University in 1957. Following three years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. McPherson joined the Kerr-McGee Corporation in 1960.
Mr. McPherson's career with Kerr-McGee has spanned more than three decades of distinguished professional service. He has served as general manager of their Gulf Coast Oil and Gas Operations, president of Kerr-McGee Coal, and president of Kerr-McGee Nuclear. He was appointed vice-chairman of Kerr-McGee Corporation in 1977 and president in 1980, also serving as chairman of the board and chief executive officer since 1983.
Mr. McPherson is active in numerous professional organizations, including the American Institute of Mechanical Engineers, the American Mining Congress, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Society of Mining Engineers. He is co-inventor of a specialized mining system, receiving a patent on this system in 1975.
Mr. McPherson has been a major contributor to volunteer and community service activities in Oklahoma. He has served with distinction on the boards of directors of several major civic organizations, including the Oklahoma city Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma City YMCA, the Oklahoma Baptist Foundation, and the Baptist Medical Center. As chairman and director of the Kerr-McGee Foundation, Mr. McPherson has helped provide guidance and support for numerous civic, cultural, and higher education projects.
Mr. McPherson's interest in the earth and its resources extends beyond the business aspect to environmental stewardship and protection of our natural heritage. He was a founding trustee of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and serves on the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve capital committee.
Mr. McPherson has chaired the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Education and Business Coalition and is a member of "Task Force 2000". An OSU Presidents Club member, he also is an inductee of the OSU Alumni Hall of Fame and OSU College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Hall of Fame. He currently serves on the OSU Foundation Board of Governors.
