How to Nominate for the Wise Award

General Information

Dr. James B. and Verena Wise established the Wise scholarship in 1990 to encourage outstanding performance by student workers in the OSU Library and to provide some assistance to students supporting themselves through school. Dr. Wise, an ophthalmologic surgeon in Oklahoma City, worked as a library student assistant when he attended OSU.

Recipients are selected each Spring Semester by a committee appointed by the Dean of Libraries. They must be full-time students at OSU and employees of the OSU Library . Academic achievement may be a consideration and those under consideration may be interviewed by the selection committee.

Recipients are invited to an awards lunch, receive $500 scholarships and are honored at the Edmon Low Library Staff Association's Spring Meeting.

Include in nomination letter:

  • Student's Name
  • Student's Department
  • Date of Appointment
  • Brief Description of Job Responsibilities
  • Contribution to Department and/or Library
  • Nominated by
  • Submit letter to the Chair of the Dr. James B. and Verena J. Wise Outstanding Student Assistant Award Committee by deadline

Criteria

  1. Any full-time Library faculty or staff (excluding members of the selection committee) may nominate a student assistant for this award. A student assistant is defined as an hourly employee enrolled full time in a degree program.
  2. The student assistant selected must:
    • be currently employed at time of nomination and award presentation,
    • be employed two semesters or six consecutive months in the previous calendar year,
    • and have received an overall performance of "good" or better on the Student Employee Performance Evaluation.
