How to Nominate for OSU Library Employee of the Year

Include in nomination letter:

  • Name of person being nominated
  • Narrative statement of reasons for nomination
  • Nominated by
  • Date
  • Submit letter to the Chair of the Outstanding Library Employee Award Committee by deadline

Criteria for OSU Library Employee Appreciation Program

Purpose: Employee recognition should be an integral part of every organization. The purpose of the employee appreciation program is to recognize outstanding contributions toward achieving the mission of the University Library by library employees or groups of employees and recognize length of continuous service to
the University Library.

Nature: Individual and/or group recognition awards may be given annually.

Criteria: The following criteria will be taken into account in choosing recipients of the Library Outstanding Employee Awards. These criteria are intended to provide examples of various kinds of achievements that might merit an award but are not intended to exclude other types of contributions toward achieving the mission of the Library.

The primary criteria for consideration for these awards is service and job performance that goes beyond the daily work of the individual.

  1. Exemplary performance both in the employee's own responsibilities as well as service beyond assigned duties. Established record of significant achievement sustained over a period of time.
  2. Continuous leadership in the conduct or improvement of library programs, services or operations. Contributing to positive patron relations by offering helpful and friendly assistance which can serve as a model for other employees.
  3. Innovative and/or creative ideas that have improved the efficiency and/or effectiveness of a library unit or service. Ideas that might contribute to the resolution of a difficult problem or a method which would improve department output or quality of work.
  4. Distinguished service and meritorious contributions within the library and/or the university and/or the library profession. Contributions at the University, State or National level that have had a significant influence on the university or library, i.e., brought recognition to the library or university. Extensive contributions to library or university committees or such organizations as the Friends of the Library, etc.
  5. Activity fostering cooperation and harmony; making the Library a more humane place to work. Successful use of human resources with fairness, respect and equal opportunity. Outstanding concern for the welfare of others which has led to an improved work environment.

Nomination Process: All full time library employees are eligible to be nominated except the Dean, Assistant Deans and the Selection Committee*. Any full time employee may make a nomination except the Dean, Assistant Deans and the Selection Committee. Anonymous nominations will not be considered.

*Selection Committee members may not be nominated for an individual award but may be a member of a group being nominated.
