In its commitment to a broad, pluralist, non-doctrinal approach, Noûs publishes high-quality critical essays, brief discussions, and important results of philosophic research. Noûs has developed a high reputation for the stature of its book reviews and the range of its contributors. Perspectives in Biology and Medicine (covers articles on biomedical ethics) Philosophical Perspectives (aims to publish original essays by foremost thinkers in their fields, with each volume confined to a main area of philosophical research. In 1996, Philosophical Perspectives became a supplement to Noûs and is currently published by Blackwell Publishers.) Philosophical Quarterly (is one of the most highly regarded and established academic journals in philosophy. In an age of increasing specialism, it remains committed to publishing high quality articles from leading international scholars across the range of philosophical study. Accessibility of its content-for all philosophers including students-is also a priority.) The Philosophical Review (Edited by the faculty of the Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University, The Philosophical Review has been in continuous publication since 1892. Volume I, edited by Jacob Gould Schurman (President of Cornell from 1892 to 1920), contained articles by William James and John Dewey. A "Prefatory Note" in the first issue expressed editorial policy that continues to rule: "the Review will combine an impartiality and catholicity of tone and spirit. It will not be the organ of any institution, of any sect, or of any interest...it must be...an absolutely free organ, national and international, of general Philosophy." Philosophy and Literature (offers information regarding philosophy and its relation to literature) Philosophy and Phenomenological Research (was founded in 1940 by Marvin Farber, who edited it for forty years. Since 1980 it has been at Brown, where it has been edited by Roderick Chisholm and then, since 1986, by Ernest Sosa. From its founding, the journal has been open to a variety of methodologies and traditions. This may be seen in the list of outstanding contributors through the years, which includes: Edmund Husserl, Ernest Nagel, C.I. Lewis, Alfred Tarski, Martin Buber, Rudolf Carnap, Arthur Lovejoy, Gustav Bergmann, Nelson Goodman, Arthur Pap, Roy Wood Sellars, Wilfrid Sellars, C.J. Ducasse, Roderick M. Chisholm, Lewis White Beck, Brand Blanshard, John Findlay, Morton White, and J.J.C. Smart. This tradition of openness continues, as reflected by a statement appearing in every issue: "PPR publishes articles in a wide range of areas including philosophy of mind, epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and philosophical history of philosophy. No specific methodology or philosophical orientation is required in submissions." Philosophy and Public Affairs (covers issues of public concern often have an important philosophical dimension. Philosophy and Public Affairs is founded in the belief that a philosophical examination of these issues can contribute to their clarification and to their resolution. It welcomes philosophical discussions of substantive legal, social, and political problems, as well as discussions of the more abstract questions to which they give rise.
