Return to the OSU Library Home Page General Use Guidelines for Electronic Resources

To provide access to most online or web-based resources, the OSU Library is required to agree to the terms and conditions detailed in the License for each specific product. Each License Agreement carefully describes permitted and prohibited uses of its data or articles. If OSU users violate the specific terms of a License, access to that particular database or journal will be terminated for the entire campus.

It would be almost impossible for you to know the specifics of the License Agreements for all of the resources you use; however, if you follow these general guidelines your use should fall within the terms and conditions of most of our agreements:

  • Authorized users are faculty, staff and students of Oklahoma State University - Stillwater. Occasional use by others is permitted if they do so while in the Library building on the Stillwater campus.
  • Remote use of the databases or online journals is generally permitted if users are authenticated (via OSU Library's EZProxy); however, some vendors and publishers specifically exclude users located at distant geographic sites such as the Wes Watkins Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Lane, Oklahoma.
  • Use should be for the purposes of personal scholarship, research, education or teaching.
  • Information or data may not be sold nor used for any commercial exploitation.
  • Single copies of articles may be made, downloaded, stored on a disc, or printed. Users may not systematically copy, download or redistribute substantial numbers of articles or data. U.S. copyright law applies to the use of licensed data.
  • Users may not share nor electronically forward articles or data to individuals other than OSU-Stillwater faculty, students or staff.
  • Any use of an article in whole or in part should include customary bibliographic citation including author attribution, date, article title, journal title and the URL of the journal.
  • Before including articles in coursepacks, check with Digital Library Services.
