Teach With Technology

Keeping up with educational technology in the classroom or in the library is extremely difficult but here are some resources to help you keep up with what you need to know.

Resources for Teachers and Librarians:

Pew Internet & American Life Project

The Pew Internet & American Life Project is the source for current information and statistics on the impact of the Internet on children, families, communities, the work place, schools, health care, and political life. New reports, trends, or statistics about the Web are available here first.

Search Engine Watch

Search Engine Watch focuses on any and everything related to search engines and also provides tips and information about searching the Web, analysis of the search engine industry, and help to site owners trying to improve their ability to be found in search engines.

WebJunction

Presented by OCLC, WebJunction is an online community where library staff meet to share ideas, solve problems, take online courses, and have fun. Various resources, groups, courses and webinars are also available. Registration is required for full access.

Wired

Get wired into the newest technology and trends. Articles from the print magazine of the same name are included in the online version.

Technorati

Technorati is a search engine for searching blogs and claims to index over 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of social media. You can search for blogs by keywords or specific topics.

LibWorm

LibWorm is the library world version of Technorati and has blogs about and by all types of libraries and librarians. LibWorm currently collects RSS feeds from over 1,500 library-related blogs and makes the content available for searching.

LISNews

This site is technically a collaborative blog with input from bloggers all around the world. LISnews lists lists and links to stories and news items on the Web concerned with librarianship.

iLibrarian

This site has news and resources on Library 2.0 and the information revolution as described by author and librarian, Elyssa Kroski. The emphasis is on technology, future trends and Library 2.0.

Information Wants to Be Free

This highly recommended blog is by Meredith Farkas, a professional writer and speaker on information tools and the services provided by librarians, provides unique insights into technology and libraries today.

Library Link of the Day

Library Link of the Day provides a daily link for keeping up to-date with the library profession. Destinations include the latest library news, good reads on the Web, and other valuable resources.

ResearchBuzz

This site has news about search engines, databases, and other information collections. Users can learn about new technology, new developments, and unique collections.

The Shifted Librarian

Jenny Levine's blog reflects the various people that she's talked with or cited regarding the way libraries are affecting their lives. This information maven is highly regarded among techies and librarians.

Stephen's Lighthouse

This is one of the most wide-ranging and informative blogs by anyone in the library profession. Stephen Abrams, VP of Innovation for SirsiDynix, speaks about the latest trends in library technology.

Tame the Web

Michael Stephens deals with libraries, technology and people on a daily basis --- and describes how these three intersect successfully (or not). A thought-provoking and useful blog filled with great ideas and resources.

 

Teaching Media Literacy

Resources to use for teaching media literacy in the classroom.

Project Look Sharp

Project Look Sharp is a Media Literacy initiative of Ithaca College that was developed to provide materials, training and support for the effective integration of media literacy with critical thinking into classroom curricula at all education levels. 


New instructional curriculum includes:

- Media Construction of Chemicals in the Environment
- Media Construction of Endangered Species
- Economics in U.S. History
- Creativity and Aging Through the Lens of Film
- Critical Thinking and Health:  Nutrition & TV Commercials  (for early elementary)
