Milton J. Ferguson

Milton Ferguson attended the University of Oklahoma from 1901 to 1906, and graduated with two degrees. Concurrently, he spent time in New York for librarianship study. He served as librarian of the University of Oklahoma from 1902 to 1907. He was one of the organizing forces, and was elected the first President of the Oklahoma Library Association, serving in 1907-08. Milton left Oklahoma for California shortly thereafter, and later became State Librarian in California from 1917 to 1930.

He worked for the Carnegie Corporation to make library surveys in Africa toward the end of his stay in California. His next position was as Librarian of the Brooklyn Public Library which lasted until 1949. He served as President of the American Library Association in 1938-39, having been involved in its activities for many years. He died in 1954.
