Pat began working in her local public library after school and summers at age 16. She received an MLS from OU and a few days later, began working for the Tulsa City-County Library System as a branch librarian. Over the years, Pat worked in almost every area of the System. In 1976, she was named Executive Director and served in that position until 1996 when she retired after 32 years.

During her career, Pat was always active in OLA and ALA activities. She served as President of OLA and chairman of the Public Library Division, Sequoyah Committee, National Library Week Committee, Nominating Committee, Legislative Committee, Program Planning Committee, Budget Committee, Standards Committee, State Question 666 Campaign and member of the State Question 507 Committee.

Other professional activities included State Chairman and delegate to the First White House Conference on Libraries, LSCA Advisory Council, Board of Regents Library Advisory Committee, Chairman of the OU Library School Advisory Committee, and founder of the Tulsa Area Library Cooperative. Pat served on numerous ALA committees including the Committee on Accreditation and President of PLA.

She was the author of numerous articles on libraries.

Pat’s awards include the OLA Distinguished Service Award, OLA Special Meritorious Service Award, OU library School Outstanding Alumnus, Tulsa City-County Hall of Fame, Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame, Tulsa Press Club’s Headliner Award, Women in Communications Newsmaker Award, and Leadership Tulsa’s Paragon Award.
