Mario & Mildred S. Rodriguez Library Materials Endowment
Story orginally ran in FY2007 Annual Report
Mildred Rodriguez knew she wanted to make a gift to OSU, but there are many opportunities to help at OSU. She said, “After consideration, I decided the Library was the best place for my gift. At the Library, it would serve everybody.”
This year, Dr. Mildred S. Rodriguez established a $75,000 library materials endowment to support human nutritional sciences. Rodriguez will be the first to tell you, “materials” doesn’t mean just books.
“Now, so many resources are online. There are journals and databases. They can get expensive and they require ongoing subscriptions.”
That is why endowments like this one are a valuable part of the Library’s financial strategy. The Rodriguez Endowment will produce a projected $3,000+ annually in interest. Most of this will be spent on materials, including subscriptions to electronic resources. A portion will be reinvested so the endowment can continue to grow.
“I just knew I wanted to do this, and I knew Mario would want to do this. He would want to support libraries,” Rodriguez said.
Many donors choose to support the OSU Libraries through named endowments. To learn more about establishing your own named endowment, call Chad Haney, Director of Library Development, at 405-744-6324.
