Story originally ran in the FY 2005 Annual Report

“We just believe in the Library,” says Friends of the OSU Library Board member, Toni Stone. She and her husband Bill Stone recently established the Stephanie Stone-Humphrey and Shellie Stone Library Endowment to honor their two daughters.

Toni joined the Friends of the OSU Library Board of Directors in 2002. She says, “Being on the Board makes us aware of the Library’s needs. The Library doesn’t have the donor base that the colleges on campus have, but in a way all the alums are Library alums.”

Bill and Toni received their first degrees from OSU in 1963; Toni also received her master's here in 1967. Like their parents Stephanie and Shellie are both graduates of OSU. Stephanie holds a B.S. in business marketing, and Shellie holds a B.S. in sociology and an M.B.A.

Many gifts are made to the Library to honor family, friends, and mentors. Named Endowments like the one the Stones have established create a lasting legacy that will honor the namesake and provide support for the Library in perpetuity. Endowments begin at $10,000 and must be fully funded within 5 years.

The Stones were able to increase their gift through the generous matching program of Bill’s employer, Exxon Mobile. Chad Haney, Director of Library Development, says, “Taking advantage of your company’s matching gift program can double or even triple your contribution. It’s a great way to make the most of your gift. Having a donation to OSU matched is easy. The OSU Foundation provides a list of companies that match, and we can walk you through the process.”

The list of matching companies can be viewed at, or you can call the Library to see if your company has a matching program. If you have questions about matching gifts or named endowments, contact the Library Dean's Office at 405-744-6321.
