Golden Circle Challenge
The Need
The 50th Anniversary Celebration was a wildly successful outreach project for the OSU Library. The award winning campaign raised $58,000 in sponsorships and partnerships, more than double the original goal of $25,000.
The Friends Board of Directors decided to use the additional funds to create an endowment that would stand as a lasting tribute to the Friends organization and this milestone anniversary. The Golden Circle of Friends Anniversary Endowment, established in 2003, is unrestricted and allows the Library to meet unforeseen needs as they arise.
The Opportunity
Anyone can contribute to the Golden Circle of Friends Anniversary Endowment, and the Friends Board has earmarked $50,000 and challenged the Library to raise the second $50,000 to complete the $100,000 endowment.
As with all endowments, the funds are invested and earn interest in perpetuity. The Library uses a percentage of the interest, and the remaining interest is reinvested so the endowment can continue to grow.
Completing the Golden Circle of Friends Anniversary Endowment Challenge aligns with the OSU Strategic Goal to provide a stimulating, responsive, and effective environment for student learning, and academic achievement.
This project also directly supports the University’s strategic theme of Academic Instruction by
- providing collaborative learning experiences
- facilitating diverse learning and rich educational opportunities
- supporting services that promote academic and life success
- and offering access to resources and learning experiences necessary to achieve full potential as individuals.
