At the top of the pyramid is the United States Supreme Court. Directly beneath the Supreme Court and feeding into it are the Appellate Courts. This second level is made up of 12 Regional Circuit Courts of Appeals and 1 U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
At the third level down and feeding into the Appellate Courts are the Trial Courts. This includes U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. District Courts. The District Courts are made up of 94 judicial districts and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts.
The fourth level of the pyramid are the Federal Courts and Other Entities Outside the Judicial Branch. These include Military Courts (Trial and Appellate), the Court of Veterans Appeals, the U.S. Tax Court, and Federal administrative agencies and boards.
