OSU Library hosts National Cowboy Poetry Week Event
April 12, 2006For Immediate Release
STILLWATER - The OSU Library is hosting its first National Cowboy Poetry Week event and is seeking performers to recite original or classic selections of cowboy poetry and songs.
The event will take place April 19 at 8 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room of the OSU Library. It is free and open to the public. Guests will be invited to vote on their favorite performer.
Assessment Librarian Karen Neurohr is coordinating the event. “Cowboy Poetry as a genre is an important oral tradition," she said. "It preserves our Western heritage and the values of the American cowboy and cowgirl.”
This event is sponsored by the OSU Library, OSU Rodeo Association and the OSU Rodeo Association Booster Club. Anyone interested in performing at the Cowboy Poetry event should contact Neurohr at 405-744-2376 or karen.neurohr@okstate.edu, or Sally Vielma at 405-742-7568.
