OSU Library Marks National Cowboy Poetry Week

STILLWATER - The 2nd annual Oklahoma Cowboy Poetry and Songs event is April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room, Edmon Low Library. The event honors National Cowboy Poetry Week, April 15–21.
The event features both professional and amateur performances. Audience members will vote on their favorite performers, and prizes will be awarded.
Professional performers include some of the best Oklahoma cowboy and cowgirl poets and singers. Scheduled performers are Robert Beene (Jones, Okla.), Debra Coppinger Hill (Chelsea, Okla.), Kevin Davis (Walters, Okla.), Lyle Newman (Stillwater, Okla.), Tom Smith (Antlers, Okla.) and Jay Snider (Cyril, Okla.). Beene, Coppinger Hill and Davis have won awards for their poetry.
OSU students who recite or sing traditional cowboy poetry or songs also will perform. Brad Clayton, last year’s Amateur Performance Winner, returns this year.
Sponsors for Oklahoma Cowboy Poetry and Songs Event are the OSU Library, Friends of the OSU Library, the OSU Rodeo Association and the OSU Rodeo Association Booster Club.
The event is recognized as an official Oklahoma Centennial Event by the Oklahoma Centennial Commission. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call Karen Neurohr at 405-744-2376.
