About the Event
The spring botanical lecturebegan in 2009 with "Botanical Illustration: Art Meets Science," an event featuring the botanical illustrations of Bellamy Parks Jensen. The event's success gave rise to a yearly celebration of Oklahoma botany.
The following year, Julia A. Jordan discussed her book Plains Apache Ethnobotany, which presented for the first time this tribe’s traditional knowledge of plants.
In 2011, the series was dubbed Plants, People & Beyond, and continued with Daryl Baldwin, director of the Myaamia Project, Miami University, Ohio. Baldwin discussed the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and how they integrate their ecological knowledge into educational programs.
