Cobb Speaker Series featuring Charles Johnson

Author Charles Johnson will speak at the 2010 Cobb Speaker Series dinner on Nov. 5. The event will also serve to celebrate the Library’s 3-Millionth Volume. Johnson won the National Book Award in 1990 for his novel Middle Passage.

The event begins at 6pm in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room at the Edmon Low Library. Dinner, program and booksigning reception will follow. Tickets are $100 each. Visit our website for additional information.

BOSS Search System Expands

The Library has expanded its BOSS search system as part of a beta testing with Summon. The new search offers Google-like searching from a single search box, and the material included covers nearly everything the Library contains, even photographs and oral histories. The new system is still in beta testing, so look for the "Click Here to Try our New BOSS Search!" link on our homepage to try it out.

Edna Mae Phelps Award - Nominations Open

Nominations are being accepted for the OSU Library’s highest honor, the Edna Mae Phelps award. This award recognizes individuals who have substantially and unselfishly gone above and beyond to increase the effectiveness of the Library. Nominees may include OSU Library volunteers, librarians, staff members, alumni, students, faculty, government office holders, fund raisers, interested citizens, and members of the Friends of the OSU Library.

If you have someone you would like to nominate, please visit our website for nomination guidelines. Entries will be accepted until October 1st.

New Databases Available

Springer Materials
Springer Materials is based on the Landolt-Bornstein New Series, a unique and fully evaluated data collection in all areas of physical sciences and engineering. It enables researchers to find the expert knowledge needed to determine which material is best suited for a project, design new materials, and evaluate and verify experimental data against known parameters. Springer Materials also allows a researcher to save time by not having to scan and evaluate existing literature on a research topic.

Gale Databases

Gale Literary Criticism Online provides a comprehensive compilation of both modern and historical literary commentary on authors, works and topics. This collection of databases contains scholarly and popular literary criticism from broadsheets, pamphlets, encyclopedias, books and articles delivered in an online format. The OSU Library subscribes to the following databases: Children’s Literature Review, Contemporary Literary Criticism, 20th Century Literary Criticism, 19th Century Literary Criticism, Shakespearean Criticism, and Short Story Criticism.
