Calling All Authors: Celebrating OSU Book Authors 2007

The OSU Library will celebrate OSU faculty and staff who have authored, co-authored or edited a book or who have published creative works such as musical compositions, art exhibit catalogs or audio recordings. On February 1, 2007 from 2-4 pm the Library will hold a reception honoring authors. Each work will be featured in a small table display, and authors are asked to be on hand to discuss their work with guests.

To participate, authors are asked to submit the form and a signed copy of their work to 216 Library by January 16, 2007. The book will be included in a display in the OSU Library and later added to the Library’s Special Collections. If authors are interested in selling copies of their work at the reception, they may provide the copies to be sold, and Library staff will assist with sales.

New Endowment to Support & Preserve Oklahoma History

The OSU Library is creating The Oklahoma Centennial Collection Endowment. The endowment will provide annual funds to acquire materials with an Oklahoma theme or by an Oklahoma author. These materials may include books, maps, photos, paintings, diaries, reports, databases or archives about Oklahoma.

Funds from this endowment will also provide support to conduct, transcribe and preserve oral history interviews with notable Oklahomans from all walks of life. One goal for 2007 is to establish the endowment with 100 gifts of $100 each. To donate, call Chad Haney at (405) 744-6323.

New Government & Science Backfiles

As the semester comes to a close, the OSU Library has continued to invest in additional electronic resources for our research community. Recent acquisitions include the following.

American State Papers, 1789-1838 provides access to more than 6,000 digitized copies of documents from the earliest portion of American history. Included is every legislative and executive document from the first fourteen Congresses, as well as many documents from the Executive branch. The documents within the database are fully searchable and may be downloaded or printed as a PDF.

The American Chemical Society’s Legacy Archive had previously been available to the OSU community on a subscription basis. This summer, we purchased the full archive covering 23 journals spanning over 100 years and more than 460,000 articles. Links to articles from the journals in the Legacy Collection have been activated in the various indexes that the library subscribes to as well as the full text list of journals.

Elsevier’s Energy and Power collection contains 64 journals, the earliest dating from 1954. Journals within this collection cover a variety of topics ranging from policy to production, as well as a variety of fuels related journals.

Elsevier’s Decision Sciences complete backfile consists of 35 journals, the earliest dating from 1963. Journals within this collection focus on operations research, decisions sciences, transportation research and statistics. Links to articles from the journals in these two collections have been activated in the various indexes that the library subscribes to as well as the full text list of journals.

Three backfiles were purchased from John Wiley and Sons. Angewandte Chemie (International edition in English) is available from 1962 forward covering more then 18,000 articles. The Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Biophysics backfile covers 15 journals beginning in 1949, covering more than 45,000 articles. The Polymer backfile contains 10 journals with the earliest dating from 1946 and contains more than 60,000 articles
