Event to Raise Funds for New Endowment

The Friends of the OSU Library and the Friends of Music are working to establish a new library collection endowment to purchase Library materials supporting the study of music. A fundraiser for the new endowment will be held April 7, at 7 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room. Tickets are $25 ($20 is a tax-deductible gift). The event includes hors d'oeuvres and dessert with entertainment provided by voice faculty from the OSU Music department: mezzo-soprano April Golliver, tenor Richard Novak and soprano Anne-Marie Condacse. All proceeds from this event go to the establishment of the Friends Music Collection Endowment. Call 405-744-7331 for information or to make reservations.

Trial for WorldCat Results Extended

WorldCat has a new format for search results. The trial for the new format, which started this month, has been extended to April 17. Users performing a search during the trial will receive "clustered" results. Instead of seeing several results, one for each format of a title, i.e. book, paperback, DVD, etc., users will receive a single entry with all the formats "clustered" in one result per title. Information on various formats is still available in the record, but "clustering" should make it easier for users to find the title they are seeking.

You can access WorldCat via the Library's Indexes and Databases list at http://www.library.okstate.edu/database/index.cfm.

Tell Your Students About EndNote

Creating and managing bibliographies is a lot easier for OSU researchers thanks to the Library. The OSU Library has negotiated and purchased the licenses for two of the most popular software packages of this kind, EndNote and Reference Manager. We are making these available for free to all OSU users.

OSU students, faculty and staff may install the software on a campus computer, as well as on a laptop or home computer. The total number of installed copies per registered user must not exceed two.

You can register and download your copy at www.library.okstate.edu/bibmanager/index.htm. If you have questions, contact Digital Library Services at 405-744-9161. Don't forget to tell your students that the software is available to them too!

Summer Lighting Project Will Impact 2nd Floor

This summer the Physical Plant will renovate lighting on the 2nd floor of the Edmon Low Library. We expect the project to run May 8-September 15. Fortunately, this will have little impact on open access to Library material.

Tentative Plans:

  • The Quartos shelved on the 2nd floor will need to be requested at the Circulation Desk during this time. Staff will retrieve items for you.
  • The Library's Acquisitions and Cataloging Departments temporarily will move to the Reading Room, making it unavailable to the public.
  • The Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room will remain open.
  • There will be intermittent access to the Special Collections and University Archives office. However, arrangements can be made to view requested materials in another area. Call 405-744-6311 to make appointments.
