Annex Update: Theses & Dissertations Relocated

The Library has two print copies of OSU theses and dissertations. First copies are held in the Special Collections/University Archives department and can be consulted there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Second copies (or circulating copies) are currently shelved on the third floor and can be checked out. These second copies are the next round of material slated for relocation to the Annex.

This relocation proposal has been presented to the University Library Advisory Committee, the University Provost, Faculty Council, Dean of the Graduate College, the Graduate College Faculty and GPSGA.

Theses

Theses from 2004 forward have been digitized and are freely available online. Many older theses are in fragile condition and contain tipped-in drawings, charts, maps and photographs that would be impossible to replace. As a protective measure, the second copies of theses written from 1919 through 1994 will be moved to the Annex. Theses written from 1995 to 2003 will remain in the Edmon Low Library until they can be digitized.

Dissertations

All OSU dissertations from 1961 forward are available online. These will move to the Annex as per the agreement with Faculty Council that anything available electronically may be relocated. However, 313 dissertations written between 1942 and 1960 have not yet been digitized. Due to their age, they are seldom consulted. These will move to the Annex now; we intend to digitize them within the next two to three years.

Accessing Material Online

OSU dissertations from 1961 forward and theses from 2004 forward are available online through UMI Digital Dissertations. The Library has a subscription to Digital Dissertations and OSU faculty and student can download complete dissertations and theses for free. You can access Digital Dissertations through our A-Z list of indexes and databases at http://www.library.okstate.edu/database/index.htm.

New!—VetMed Resource 2007 Pilot

OSU is one of eight veterinary schools in the U.S. to pilot VetMed Resource in an academic setting. Throughout the 2007 pilot, the OSU community is encouraged to submit input about VetMed Resource as both an information product and a tool for the veterinary curriculum.

VetMed Resource is an online resource designed for animal health specialists and veterinarians. It provides access to:
• the veterinary portion of CAB Abstracts—over 1 million journal abstracts from over 3000 journals, books, and conference proceedings
• online access to full text journal articles and conference proceedings not available elsewhere
• specially commissioned review articles
Animal Health & Production Compendium (AHPC)—searchable full text database with over 800 datasheets and 2000 photographs

VetMed Resource is designed for subscription by individual veterinarians and others professionals. Providing access to veterinary students gives them the opportunity to become familiar with content and proficient in use before graduation. The support and instruction for this resource during school may help them to make future decisions about subscribing to information resources.

You can access VetMed Resource via the Library’s Indexes and Databases list at http://www.library.okstate.edu/database/index.htm.
