James Patterson headlines Library Fundraiser
The H. Louise & H.E. “Ed” Cobb Speaker Series is an annual fundraiser for the Friends of the OSU Library. The 22nd event features James Patterson and will be held Sept. 14 at ConocoPhillips Alumni Center. A welcome reception and dinner will be followed by Patterson’s talk and a book signing.
Patterson is best-known for his thrillers such as the Alex Cross series, however his works also include a number of award-winning children’s books. A prolific writer, Patterson has five hardbacks slated for release this summer.
Individual tickets are $100, and half the cost is a tax-deductible gift to the Friends of the OSU Library. Tables and sponsorship opportunities are available. Seating is limited; call Debbie Clemons at 405-744-7273 or visit www.library.okstate.edu/friends to reserve tickets.

High-Density Shelving Facility
In spring 2012 the OSU Library began the planning phase to add a high-density shelving facility. High-density shelving maximizes the number of items per square foot. Items are arranged by size, and shelving is multiple stories tall. The facilities are specially designed for ideal archival climate conditions.
We are currently investigating possible locations. The suitability of the selected location will impact the timeline for completion. Library administration is working with consultants to develop a reasonable timeline. Under the most ideal circumstances, the new facility could be ready for material in one-two years.
In selecting materials to move to the new facility, we will continue to use the criteria set in our 2004 discussions with faculty and other campus constituents: material available online; fragile material, special collections/archives materials and documents; and non peer-reviewed material older than 25 years.

Update: Site evaluations continue. A location has not yet been determined.

Math Learning Success Center Relocates to Edmon Low
The Math Learning Resource Center serves undergraduates learning and using mathematics in their coursework. It is currently located on the 4th floor of the Classroom Building. This summer work will begin to prepare a new facility (to be renamed the Math Learning Success Center) on the 5th floor of the Edmon Low Library. The MLSC will occupy the northwest corner of the 5th floor and house two MLSC staff, individual and group tutoring spaces and a 125 person computer lab.
The move will dramatically increase the visibility and accessibility of the MLSC which benefits all OSU students. The tutoring areas and computer lab will be open to the public when the MLSC is closed, increasing seating and available computers during these hours. The upcoming MLSC will enhance the Library’s position as the center of student learning. It is scheduled to open 2013.
