OSU Library November 2008 Update

November 21, 2008

For Immediate Release

STILLWATER - Library Updates will be forwarded to OSU faculty each month; an archive of these updates can be found at http://www.library.okstate.edu/news/dean. If you do not wish to receive future Library Updates via email, please send a message to bonnie.cain@okstate.edu with the subject line containing one word: remove

In this Update:

New Business Database: IBISWorld

The OSU Library, in cooperation with the Spear's School of Business, now offers the IBISWorld database in its collection. IBISWorld covers more than 700 NAICS industries and allows students and faculty to access the same information available to the Fortune 500.

Each industry report is updated every three to four months, giving current and important data useful to those doing research in the field. Report segments include industry definition, market characteristics, segmentation, performance and outlook.

You can access IBISWorld through the Library list of databases. If you have questions about this or other electronic library resources, contact the Digital Library Services office at 405-744-9161. You may also email at lib-dls@okstate.edu.

Library Survey to Faculty

The OSU Library is conducting an online service satisfaction survey for faculty to help us improve our services for you. We appreciate those of you who have taken the survey and hope to triple the current response rate of 10%. The survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and it will be open until December 10. Survey invitations are being sent via email from Dean Sheila Johnson.

Faculty participants may elect to be included in a prize drawing for an iPod Touch or an 8.1 megapixels digital camera. To be in the drawing, you must include your email address at the end of the survey.  The survey results will not be associated with the names. Email librarysurvey@okstate.edu if you have any questions.

Celebrating Books by OSU Authors

Join us on February 17 from 11:30-1:30 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room for the third annual "Celebrating Books by OSU Authors." The reception honors OSU faculty, emeriti, staff and students who have authored, co-authored or edited a book or who have published creative works such as musical compositions, art exhibit catalogs or audio recordings. Guests will have the opportunity to talk to authors, and several books and CDs by honorees will be for sale.

The purpose of "Celebrating Books by OSU Authors" is to recognize and honor these individuals' achievements, encourage academic dialogue and ensure that works by OSU authors are available to the University community by adding these pieces to the OSU Library's collection. This year's event will spotlight books and creative works published in 2007 and 2008. If your work falls into this category, submit the form at www.library.okstate.edu/forms/authors.htm. We will add you to the list of honorees.

Tell Your Students: My Library Application in D2L

When OSU students log in to Desire2Learn, they will find a My Library option in the top navigation bar. This D2L-Library integration application connects students to context-specific library resources. Students will find a list of databases recommendations based on the course and the level of study, a link to search the course reserves, the name and contact information for the subject librarian, and links to contact a reference librarian via chat, IM, phone or email. The page also features a single search box for both articles and books. .
