Meet the BOSS

STILLWATER -The Library’s homepage has a new look and so does the OSU Library Catalog. We are pleased to unveil a new interface for the Catalog, BOSS: Big Orange Search System.
You can still access the “Classic Catalog” through links on our homepage or by going directly to http://osucatalog.library.okstate.edu/, but now you have another option as well. BOSS, a more intuitive search interface, provides different ways to search, refine and discover materials.
Searching is easy; just enter a term in a single search box and hit enter. Results are ranked by relevance. Click on a result title for more information. On the right is a list of options to refine results. On the left is the “word cloud:” suggestions to broaden your search based on associations, spelling variations, translations and a history trail of words you’ve clicked already.
BOSS incorporates Syndetics Indexed Content Enrichment (ICE)®, providing book cover images, and searchable tables of contents, summaries and full-text reviews. The addition of this searchable content will allow library users to retrieve records for items that were previously “hidden” because keywords of interest did not appear in the title or subject headings associated with a particular item. Table of contents also provides the convenience of browsing the book without having to pull it from the shelf.
