STILLWATER Do you remember the Howdy Walk around Theta Pond? How about playing bridge in the new Student Union or attending a dance in Murray Hall? These recollections and many more are being recorded as part of the Oklahoma State University Library’s O-STATE Stories oral history project.
The OSU Library launched O-STATE Stories during Homecoming 2006 to preserve memories from people connected to Oklahoma A&M College and OSU. Modeled after the StoryCorps program featured on National Public Radio, O-STATE Stories has already interviewed more than 30 former students.
Strong loyalty towards OSU is a common theme among interviewees, according to OSU Librarian and O-STATE Stories project member Tanya Finchum.
"These alumni have shared precious memories, and O-STATE Stories is a terrific venue for connecting all generations of OSU students, Finchum said. "The common thread is one of loyalty to the institution and the emotional bonds formed while a student speak volumes."
O-STATE Stories is currently looking to interview additional alumni from the OAMC years (1891-1957). Appointments are available during Homecoming 2007 at OSU-Stillwater on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20. Interviews usually last about one hour and are both audio and video recorded.
Participants may be accompanied by an interviewer of their choosing such as a grandchild or child. Members from the OSU Library will also be on hand to serve as interviewers and to assist as needed.
If you are unable to make it to Stillwater during Homecoming but would like to take part in O-STATE Stories, call for more information.
