For Immediate Release

STILLWATER - Students have the chance to embrace the world of free exchange of information and win cash through the Sparky awards sponsored by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC).

“MindMashUp,” as SPARC calls it, is a contest to promote the open exchange of information in an ever-changing society from YouTube to Wikipedia.

The contest is free to enter, and the deadline for all entities is Dec. 2, 2007.

The winner will receive a check for $1,000 and a fabulous “Sparky Award” statuette. Two runners-up will also be selected, and each will receive $500 and a personalized award certificate.

The SPARC Discovery Awards challenge students to illustrate in a short video presentation what they see as the value of sharing information. It is a chance for students to get creative and suggest what good comes from breaking down barriers to the free exchange of information.

The SPARC Discovery Awards are organized and sponsored by SPARC. An alliance supported and funded by hundreds of academic libraries and research institutions, SPARC promotes new scholarly communication models that use the Internet to expand sharing of information.
