For Immediate Release

STILLWATER -The OSU Curriculum Materials Library is recognizing Banned Book Week, Sept. 27-Oct. 4, and celebrating the freedom to read. Banned Books Week highlights books that have been banned or challenged based on political, religious, sexual or social grounds.

The CML built a Banned Book Week display, featuring examples of banned books and background on Banned Book Week. Featured books include: “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”; “The Chocolate War”; and “I Know Why Caged Birds Sing”.

The display continues inside the CML. Banned books from the CML’s collection are available on tables throughout and have “Danger” taped around them. The CML also has various informative and decorative posters on display about Banned Book Week.

Banned Book Week celebrates the right to express one’s opinions or viewpoints, according to the American Library Association website. It also celebrates Americans’ rights to read those opinions and viewpoints; it is our intellectual freedom.
