STILLWATER - The OSU Library’s laptop check-out program will expand to 150 machines thanks to the Friends of the OSU Library. The Board of Directors unanimously voted to spend $27,500 from the Friends fund to purchase 25 laptops and a charging station.
“We have noticed that students prefer to check out a laptop here as opposed to carrying theirs across campus,” said Sheila Grant Johnson, Dean of Libraries. “The program had grown to 125 laptops, but after monitoring usage of the computers, we found that more were needed to meet student requests.”
Typically, the purchase of laptops, toner and paper comes from student fees, but the Friends of the Library Board felt this was an opportunity to use donations to directly support students.
Laptops may be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the library. The check out time for students is five hours.
The Friends of the OSU Library provide private funding to support the OSU Library and its mission. Gifts to the Friends of the OSU Library support resources, services and facilities for every student at OSU. For more information on the Friends, visit www.library.okstate.edu/friends.
