Oklahoma Cowboys Share Poetry & SongsApril 1, 2008 For Immediate Release STILLWATER - The third annual Oklahoma Cowboy Poetry and Songs on April 8 at 7 p.m. will showcase professional and student entertainment. The event will be held in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room, Edmon Low Library. “I’m excited the Library is hosting this event again,” said Karen Neurohr, OSU Assessment Librarian. “We have great performers this year, which will make for a good show.” OSU students, Brad Clayton from North Webster, Ind., and Tommy Moellering of San Antonio, Texas will present. Invitational performers include Dale E. Page, Lyle Newman, Jay Snider, Debra Coppinger Hill and Jim Garling. Performers will recite or sing traditional cowboy poetry or songs. Event guests will vote for the best professional and best student performer, and prizes will be awarded. Cowboy poetry grew from the oral tradition of workers on cattle drives and ranches. The cowboy lifestyle is alive in the United States, and contemporary cowboy poetry is being written today. While pieces do not actually have to be written by cowboys, the poem or song will have some connection to the cowboy life. This event is free and open to the public. It is presented by the OSU Rodeo Association, OSU Library, OSU Rodeo Association Booster Club and Friends of the OSU Library. OSU students who wish to perform at the event should contact Karen Neurohr at 405-744-2376. For more information the event, contact (405) 744-7331 or email at libpub@okstate.edu.
