For Immediate Release
STILLWATER - The OSU Library Reference Desk now answers questions via text. Students, staff and others can reach a librarian by texting “osuhelp:” followed by their question to the number 265010 on their cellular phones.
“Almost every student has a cell phone and we hope this addition increases use of the library's resources,” said Roy Degler, Digital Library Services Librarian.
Reference librarians monitor IMs from AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. The new texting feature will route all messages through AIM to the attending librarian. Hours for the IM and texting feature are 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Texters must be sure to begin the message with “osuhelp:” or the text will return as undeliverable.
For more information regarding the new texting feature or to contact the Reference Desk, call 405-744-9775 or visit www.library.okstate.edu/services/im.htm.
