Jari Askins was interviewed November 6, 2008 as part of the Women of the Oklahoma Legislature Oral History Project. Ms. Askins was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1994 and served through 2006 at which time she was elected Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma. She represented House District 50 and was a member of the Democratic Party. Ms. Askins describes her path to the Capitol including her time as a college student and a series of jobs after receiving a law degree. She also shares some of the legislative issues she supported and discusses briefly the difference between campaigning for the legislature and for lieutenant governor.
