Dr. Kay Todd Martin was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She graduated high school in El Dorado, Kansas. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Emporia Kansas University, she earned a Master of Science degree in Business Education from the University of Central Arkansas in 1971 and a Ph.D. in Vocational Technical Education, Teacher Education, Marketing and Research from Ohio State University in 1981. Since then, she underwent a special needs multicultural curriculum at the University of Central Oklahoma and Educational Administration courses for Superintendent Certification from Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Martin currently serves as Superintendent and CEO of Francis Tuttle Technology Center, a position she pioneered as a woman originally, being only the second female to serve as CEO of a technology center in Oklahoma, and has since led the way for other women to advance. Before serving in her current position she advanced quickly through the management ranks at Francis Tuttle where she began her employment in 1982. Prior to this she taught in a number of high schools as well as at the University of Central Arkansas where she was Assistant Professor from 1978 to 1982.
Dr. Martin has served on a number of boards including Automotive Youth Educational Systems Board of Directors, Central Oklahoma Regional Leadership Institute Board of Directors, National Council of Local Administrators Board of Directors, serving as president from 2002-2003, Science Museum Oklahoma (Omniplex) Board of Trustees, Leadership Oklahoma Executive Board and Leadership Oklahoma City Alumni Board. She is a member of Oklahoma Business Roundtable, FBI Citizen’s Academy Class 11 Alumni, Oklahoma Commission for Education Leadership, Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women Advisory Council, Josephson Institute of Ethics, Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth, National School Board Association, Edmond CEO Advisory Council, Phi Delta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Alum, and Edmond Chamber of Commerce, among many other associations.
Dr. Martin has received numerous awards for her dedication to enriching the lives of Oklahomans, including being inducted in 2007 to the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame, Journal Record Woman of the Year nominee in 1998 and 2002, Friend of Career and Technical Education’s Equity Council Award in 2001, Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education’s Educator of the Year Award, Oklahoma Council of Vocational Administrators Educator of the Year in 1995, and Manager of the Year by Edmond Chamber of Commerce in 1990, to name a few of her recognitions. She has authored numerous columns, scholarly journal articles, and research papers.
Dr. Kay Martin is married to Dr. John Martin. She has one son named Todd Rogers and two stepchildren , Cammi Misner and Mark Martin.
