SERIES I-IV
Series I: Personal
Size: 1.25 linear ft.
Contains biographical information and curriculum vitae, information about appointments, awards and family. There is a file about Dr. Charles Atkins in this series.
Series II: Publications, Papers and Speeches
Size: 1.25 linear ft.
Includes the Texts of Atkins' publications, papers and speeches. Bibliographic citations for the publications are included in the finding aid. The Texts of speeches are arranged chronologically by the date delivered. Invitations or programs are attached to the speech if they were available.
Series III: Campaigns
Size: 1.25 linear ft.
Includes information about campaigns for the 97th District House of Representatives seat, including examples of flyers and public relations material. There is more information about the earlier campaigns. Also includes information about reapportionment of districts in Oklahoma City.
Series IV: State Representative
Size: 10 linear ft.
Contains several sub-series. House Bills and resolutions includes copies of many of the bills authored and co-authored by Atkins. Also includes a lists of bills written from several years. Information about several of the bill's topics is also contained in these files. Topical and committee files provide details about Atkins work on several House committees, mainly dealing with health and education. Higher education is the main focus of the files on education, including Langston University. Mental health is the focus of most of the health related information. There are also files on bills authored by other members of the House. Press releases, phone messages and correspondence from constituents are also included in this series.

Series V-VI: Human Resources; Cabinet Secretary of Social Services; & Secretary of State

The bulk of the information in this series is correspondence from 1987-1990. There are also files about Atkins' work in Human Services and as a Cabinet Member. See also:

Series VII: United Nations
Size: 1.75 linear ft.
Includes files covering the period of Atkins' appointment to the General Assembly in the fall of 1980. She served on the Third Committee: Economic and Social Issues. Also includes files from Atkins' appointment to UNESCO (1979-1982) and U.N. Decade for Women material
Series VIII: Civil Rights
Size: 1.75 linear ft.
Correspondence, testimonies, material on affirmative action and equal housing practices.
SERIES IX-XII
Series IX: Organizations and Board Memberships
Size: 7.5 linear ft.
Contains four sub-series on Atkins' involvement in various organizations. The General sub-series contains various organizations. Civil Rights/Urban Affairs documents involvement in ACLU, NAACP, the Urban Affairs Institute and the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City. Education includes local and national initiatives to provide and improve educational opportunities for minorities. Included are the Black Child Development Institute and the Center for Research on Minority Education at the University of Oklahoma. Democratic politics, both local and national, comprises a major part of the political sub-series. This sub-series also contains information on the Joint Center for Political Studies, National Conference of State Legislators, the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and Women Executives in State Government. The sub-series on Professional organizations outlines involvement in Special Libraries Association, the Southwestern Chapter of the American Association of Law Librarians and the American Society for Public Administration.
Series X: Equal Rights Amendment
Size: 1.25 linear ft.
Provides correspondence, legislation and publications about the effort to pass the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s. Atkins was instrumental in attempting to gain passage of the amendment in Oklahoma. This series contains literature and publications from various organizations such as the ACLU, League of Women Voters, National Organization for Women and OK-ERA.
Series XI: Topical Files
Size: 3.75 linear ft.
Have been drawn from Atkins' speech and research files. The files were not organized topically but have been assigned subjects. Subjects overlap. One records box is devoted to topics related to women's issues.
Series XII: Certificates
Size: 1.25 linear ft.
Awarded to Atkins for public service, politics, and membership in organizations. Certificates are arranged chronologically and some are in oversized boxes.

Series XIII: Plaques

Awarded to Atkins for public service, politics, and membership in organizations. Plaques are arranged chronologically and some are in oversized boxes.
Series XIV: Newspaper Clippings
Size: 2.25 linear ft.
Contain information about Atkins, her family, and her career. These clippings are grouped chronologically by year. Some are undated and others do not show what newspaper they are originally from.
Series XV: Media
Size: .5 linear ft.
Relating to Atkins and her career. This series contains audio cassettes and VHS video tapes.
Series XV: Artifacts
Size: 2 linear ft.
Of professional and personal interest to Atkins. Items include a Rolodex, license plates, scrapbook, campaign buttons, keys to cities, and various awards and mementos.
