Government Documents for the
Agricultural Sciences
In addition to journal articles and books, you may need to use statistical
and/or government resources as supporting information. Using these sources can
strengthen your writing.
Statistical Information
It is often useful to support your findings with a few facts.
- For some general facts on agriculture, check the Agriculture Fact Book which is
available from the USDA. This is also available in paper in Government
Documents on the 5th Floor of Edmon Low Library Call#: A 1.38:/2:
- Agricultural Statistics,
published by the United States Department of Agriculture, is a classic
reference to state-by-state figures in production, supply, value, and
consumption of agricultural products. It is also available in print in
Government Documents on the 5th Floor of Edmon Low Library, Call#: A 1.47:
- The U.S. Census of
Agriculture provides statistics by state, county and zip code. Printed and
CD-ROM copies of these years and older Agriculture Census' are available in
the Government Documents Reference on the 5th Floor of Edmon Low Library.
Government Publications
Many government publications are available in print in Government Documents
on the 5th Floor of Edmon Low Library or through the Documents Department web
page. If you are having trouble locating a particular document, please ask

USDA Home Page is the
main web page of the USDA. Specific departments and services are available
through this page.

- Growing a Nation: The Story of
American Agriculture is a graphical representation of the history of
American agriculture provided by the USDA. Condensed History of
American Agriculture is a brief representation of this information.
- Government documents is also home to soil surveys from
throughout the nation. The call number for the Oklahoma collection is as
follows: EAG657 S695 OK (county name) Year. These can also be searched for
through the library catalog.
